These are my first two 'graffiti' sketches. I drew them circa 1985/1986 after watching Beat Street with my Dad in one of pre-gentrified Downtown L.A.'s historic film houses. (I think it was The Orpheum.) I have no idea what the crew I made up (DSR) stood for, but I have my theories...

Oh my goodness. This is so damn cute. I admire the fact that you would put on the internet your first sketches. Other artists would be embarrassed to show their first works because it would portray their amateur and perhaps novice style. This is so refreshing because we know what you are capable of now. I love the fact that you also shared this was done after seeing Beat Street with your Dad. Priceless! I would also like to know what your theories are on D.S.R.?..lol Take care and God Bless!!

@Sniffulz: Many thanks for your thoughtful comment. I start reminiscing everytime I run into some old (or ancient) work and try to recall what was goin' on in my head at that point in my life. My fam has been instrumental in inspiring everything I do: from my Dad dragging me to see tons of flicks at the discount theatres, my Mom drawing my fave comic book characters for me as a kid, and my Grandma takin' me everywhere in the city on foot or the RTD.

@Adiktshun: Dude, what was I thinking drawing the DJ gear like that?!? Ha!

@Mark: Thanks man! I think y'all used to call them 'shines', no?

@thaMuteone: For real man, I sketched forever before getting my hands on a spray can (that my Grandma hooked up!)
