@c-rocka: thx c-rocka! the zapatistas are sometimes called "hombres y mujeres murciélagos" (bat-men and bat-women,) and the Japanese "shinobi-no-mono" means 'one who steals away in stealth,' implicitly by night. so there's a connection there somewhere ;)

@humanbeing: 1) he's trying to hitch a ride on the yellow submarine or 2) he's one of the limited-edition zapatista action figures the octopus likes to play with (notice the missing arm?) and the submariners are trying to take him away.

@derek: the feet are under his wide-leg raver pants.
