Streetwise Clothing just released a shirt I designed for 'em featuring some familiar L.A. sights. Swing by their site and scoop up some gear 'cuz It's gonna be hot this summer!
Nice flip-through of the MONOKROME book. I'm one of the contributing artists along with luminaries such as Kofie, Ben One, Remi/Rough, Hush and Cute. The book is once again available online!
From the book's website: "MONOKROME brings together writers from all four corners of the globe with different styles, different views and different periods of time spent in graffiti. It creates an arena that is compelling for the veteran graffiti writer, the newcomer and the outsider alike... You'll see what you don't normally see; the work that happens before it gets to the wall, the work that builds upon what went before it, the work that bridges the gap between the old and the new. All in black and white..."
The homies from Streetwise Clothing are straight killin' it with West Coast style for you to rock on your block! Keep an eye on their site for their current line and new releases. (I designed a shirt for their upcoming line -hint, hint!)

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Belong 7"
Slumberland Records
2011 The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart won me over the first time I saw them play live. Hearing their records always makes me feel like they are playing the songs my favorite bands should have written. Their latest album and all related singles feature some nice paintings by Winston Chmielinski which complement their music quite well. Cheers!
ZLA is one of the few street art practioners whose work I really dig. Seeing the little dudes dangling around all over L.A. makes me smile every time. Peep the ZLA website for more art goodness. (Thanks ZLA!)
So this kid made a cardboard arcade in his Dad's shop right there by Mission and Cesar Chavez (home to the infamous Glass, Glass wall we paint from time to time.) The kid had no customers until a filmmaker dude rolled up. This short film explains what happened next. Inspirational and fun for err'one (the film AND the arcade.)
I recently received a cool package from the folks behind Amongst Thieves including a couple of zines and hand-drawn stickers. I've followed the work of some of the featured artists -including Minus and Ramen- for a while now, and the zines present work from them and a selection of other top-notch peeps. Sketches, throwies, pieces, characters, and handstyles all get some well-deserved shine. Peep their site for currently available stuff. Highly recommended.
I was invited to a behind-the-scenes presentation of the manuscript collection at the Getty Research Institute today. It was an amazing and inspiring experience. These are some snapshots I managed to take of some of the typography, calligraphy, engravings, and illustrations I saw. Oh, that D.V.L. you might spot in there: Da Vinci Leonardo... Sayin'!
