Back in the day, my dad took me to meet comic book artist
Stan Sakai at a local comic book store, and I became a fan on the spot. He was signing autographs and making sketches along with another hero of mine,
Sergio Aragones (of
Groo the Wanderer and
Mad Magazine fame.) I remember them being super cool and hooking me up with sketches of
Usaji Yojimbo and
Groo. Anyway...
...Flash forward to 2011: Rollin' around Little Tokyo here in L.A. tonight,
LeHumanBeing and I stumbled upon an exhibit featuring Stan Sakai's work. The show has an extensive collection of everything from preliminary sketches to finished paintings, all centered around his iconic samurai rabbit
Usagi Yojimbo. If you find yourself in L.A. between now and the end of October, definitely worth catching.
